# Rate limits

> How many requests you can make, and what happens past the limit.

Past a limit the API answers `429 Too Many Requests`. Wait and try again; a minute is always enough for the token
endpoint.

The rest of the API has no fixed limit today. Be a good neighbor so it can stay that way:

* **Reuse your token** for its 10 minutes instead of getting one per request.
* **Page through lists** with the largest `pageSize` you need (up to 100), rather than many small pages.
* **Back off on errors:** after a `429` or a `5xx`, wait before retrying, and wait longer each time.
* **Don't poll fast.** Deposits update hourly, so checking them more often than that finds nothing new.

Mojo Payments may add limits to protect the service. Code that handles `429` by waiting keeps working when it does.
