# Installing the CLI

> Each register's setup download, and where the files go.

## Get the register's setup

When a key is created in the portal (**Settings → POS Gateway → Register keys**), the key screen offers
**Download register setup**. Choose which POS it's for:

| For | The program is named |
| - | - |
| Any POS | `mojo.exe` |
| Passport | `rCharge.exe` (the name Passport runs) |

The download is a zip with:

| File | What it is |
| - | - |
| `mojo.exe` (or `rCharge.exe`) | The Mojo Payments CLI. |
| `appsettings.json` | Its settings, pointed at the POS Gateway ([Settings](/cli/settings)). |
| `README.txt` | The steps below, for this register. |
| `register-key.txt` | This register's key id and secret. |

  `register-key.txt` holds the key's secret. Enter the key in your POS, then delete the file.

## Install it

<Steps>
  <Step title="Copy the files">
    Unzip, and copy the program and `appsettings.json` into the folder your POS runs it from. Both must be in the same
    folder.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the key in your POS">
    Where your POS asks for the CardPointe username and password: the key id and the secret.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check it">
    From that folder:

    ```bash theme={null}
    mojo.exe "-a=Test" "-f=test.txt"
    ```

    `test.txt` should contain `"Hello World"`. Then run a small sale from the POS and void it.

## Updating

Replace the program with the one from a newer setup download; keep your `appsettings.json`. `mojo --version` shows the
version you have.

  Windows may warn that the program is from an unknown publisher the first time it runs. Choose **More info → Run anyway**
  for `mojo.exe` from your Mojo Payments setup download.
